Hailing from Ystrad in the Rhondda valley, Rhys is a current Wales international rugby union player. A prop forward he joined Saracens in May 2009 having previously played for Cardiff Blues. The pride of the Rhondda, Rhys has already achieved much in the game, his highlights being 6 Welsh caps and the recent Aviva Premiership title 2014/15 with Saracens.
Chris Jones is the coach for Rhondda Schools Rugby. Rhondda Schools Rugby provides opportunities through the medium of rugby union for youngsters to develop and extend their social skills and networks. Chris is widely respected within the game as an outstanding coach who develops players for a future professional career. In his 20 year involvement, the Rhondda U15 team has won the Dewar Shield 10 times and reach 18 finals.
Mike is the manager of Waun Wen Community Centre in Trebanog. He has been in the role for over 15 years. The Waun Wen Community Centre has become a hub for adult learning focussing on essential skills development and employment skills. Other community engagement activities run from the centre are youth clubs and after school clubs which offer lots of voluntary opportunities. Mike has a keen interest in sport and fitness and has seen how sport can influence and change people lives for the better.
Jonathan is the owner of Hoops Health and Fitness based in Tonyrefail. He is a fully qualified Personal Trainer. Sport, Fitness, Health and Nutrition have always been a big part of his life, which led him to study a degree in Applied Sport Science at the University of Glamorgan. Jonathan is also a former professional rugby union player having represented Caerphilly RFC and Swansea RFC . He also has the distinction of representing Wales at 7s level.
Kevin is an experienced MMA and BJJ fighter from the Rhondda. He has benefited from the discipline and focus needed to compete in these sports and as a result has used his experience and skills to open the sport to a wider audience in the valleys. A former MPCT apprentice, Kevin is now living and working in Hong Kong out of Scorpion Fitness as a gym and martial arts instructor.
Towering at 6ft 8in and 19 stone, Lou is a current professional rugby union player with Cardiff Blues and Wales. Lou represented Rhondda schools in his youth and is proud to represent Rhondda rugby within his profession. Lou is much loved by his team mates throughout the game for his comical demeanor and stories!
Ben is the youngest qualified level 3 rugby coach in Wales. He started his career as a trainee and used work placements and voluntary work to build up his CV to gain experience in the coaching industry. Since then, Ben has been fast tracked by the WRU and Cardiff Blues to the post of WRU Participation officer for Rhondda and Merthyr. He is also the coach of Beddau RFC in the WRU Championship at just 26 years old.
Dan is the current programme manager for Engage for Life. Engage for Life run the National Citizenship Service project in England. He started as trainee specialising in sports coaching. He volunteered running after school clubs and half term play schemes and his hard work was rewarded after he was given the chance to become a trainee training instructor. In time, after showing much promise Dan was given the opportunity to continue his development towards a career in education and completed a PGCE. He has since used this experience to best engage with young people in his current role.
